QuickTime player is a free program developed by Apple and claimed as the best place to play any video and media clips from personal resource and internet. However, you may find that QuickTime player won't play your Blu-ray movies. What if we want to watch our favourite Blu-ray movies in QuickTime on Mac?

Of course, most of us are not about to play iTuness ridiculous prices to watch movies and TV shows we already have on Blu-rays. Instead, we'll just rip those Blu-ray discs to a QuickTime-friendly format. Only comes with some help from third-party software, it can be done effortlessly.

If you're looking for ease of use and don't mind spending $49, I've had success using Brorsoft's Blu-ray Ripper for Mac to rip and convert Blu-ray discs to a format playable by QuickTime and iTunes. I've found the quality to be excellent, and see no difference when compared to playing the discs themselves.

The software works like most other BD rippers I've used. Pop in your disc, choose an QuickTime output profile (QuickTime MOV, MP4, HD MP4), and click "Convert". Then go get a cup of coffee (conversion takes time). How to Rip Blu-ray movies for playback on QuickTime on Mac

The quick start guide below uses Blu-ray Ripper Mac screenshots. The way to rip Blu-ray to QuickTime in Windows (8) is almost the same. Just make sure you get the right version according to your computer operating system. Note a BD drive is needed for ripping Blu-ray discs.

Step 1. First, of all the process starts at the Blu-ray drive (necessary for BD ripping), insert your Blu-ray in the drive, then launch the Blu-ray ripper software. Click “Load Blu-ray” icon to import the Blu-ray movies.

Loaded Blu-ray movies can be previewed in the right preview window and you're free to take snapshots of your favorite Blu-ray movies. In addition, you can select the subtitle and audio track as you like.

Step 2. Select and custom output format. Click "Common Video" > "MOV - QuickTime (*.MOV)" to get the optimized output file for Blu-ray to QuickTime conversion.

If you want to convert your Blu-ray movies for play on iPhone, iPad, iPod, Apple TV and more, you can simply browse to find the preset of your device and select it as the output format to get videos with optimized settings. All iDevices output files can be synced to iTunes automatically.

Tips: If you like, you can click “Settings" to change the video encoder, resolution, frame rate, etc. Remember bitrate higher results in big file size, and lower visible quality loss.

Step 3. Finally, press the Convert button; it will start to convert Blu-ray to QuickTime friendly video format on Mac immediately.

After the conversion completed you can click on "Open" button in the main interface to get the generated files and play the converted Blu-ray in QuickTime player effortlessly.
